Been on the hunt for a mat that looks good with any tiles and I believe I’ve found it! Arrived at my lesson yesterday and was greeted by this amazingly delicious homemade pumpkin cappuccino in this throwback mug (iykyk). It was the first pumpkin flavored thing I’ve had this season and it was *chefs kiss* - The group was so lovely, we were joined by the host’s 16 month old for a bit (he knew exactly how to rack a tile it was so precious!), and it was just all the good things about this business. I’ll never stop marveling at the number of kind, cool, incredibly lovely humans I’ve met through Mahjong. Thanks for inviting us into your homes and letting us share this special game with you. 🩵🩵🩵

Birthday mahjong lessons are always so fun, but the icing on the cake is when the party group features DC pals you’ve acquired along your 15 years of Capitol Hill living! We love all of DC, but there’s no community quite like Capitol Hill ❤️ It’s supported me through my first big girl job, marriage, deployments, motherhood, deployment with kids, loss and new beginnings(I’m looking at you pandemic 🌈 twins) and now, over the last almost 2 years, building community through mahjong!

Let me start by saying, I am plenty competitive and understand the desire to get your first mahjong, but hear me out…As a new player, there are so many rules, new vocabulary to digest and etiquette to follow. I challenge you when starting out to give yourself grace and focus on really understanding the flow of play and all the intricacies of the game. Once you’ve mastered that, then you can go deep on strategy and playing to win! And who knows, maybe you’ll win that first game anyway and if you don’t win any games for the first few rounds, I bet you’ll learn just as much or more from your losses!

Keep that backup hand (or hands) in mind when discarding so you can leave the path to pivoting as open as possible. Admittedly, this is not my strong suit. I get caught up in how my house isn’t “perfect” and shy away from hosting often. However, last week I shook that off and got out all my favorite serving pieces and drink ware and it felt so good! Plus the fresh flower arrangements are the gift that keeps on giving! If your house is also not “perfect” let this be your sign to host anyway! You won’t regret it. 🤗 💕 #hosting #mahjong

After a lesson last week, my sister and I pretended we were having a spa day by using the gym sauna, steam room etc and yolo’d with hydra massage chair time before going home. Lo and behold the hydra massage chairs offer the computer based mahjong of my youth 😆
